Principles of Play
- We want to be ball dominant. We want the ball. Win all 50/50 balls. When we lose the ball, win it back right away.
- We want to be confident in possession and take chances in the opponent’s half. We will take good chances; they don’t have to be perfect.
- In possession we want to look for: outlets and splits; space and the next space; and numbers. If you do not have the ball, shift to be an outlet or split, or create space.
- Out of possession and ball on opponent’s feet, we are: compact; protecting space; checking our shoulder; and talking.
- Both in and out of possession, we want balance. Think of positioning and space, not just watching the ball.
